How Much Fat Do I Need
Plan to send a minimum of 2.5 pounds of clean, frozen fat for each batch of soap ordered.
Each batch requires approximately 1 pound of rendered tallow. If the submitted fat does not produce enough usable tallow to complete the batch, Legacy Lather will add beef tallow as needed.
Shipping
Proper packaging is important to help ensure your shipment arrives in good condition and is ready for processing.
Before shipping, please follow these guidelines:
- If you're using a commercial meat processor, let them know ahead of time that you'd like to keep the fat for soap making. Most processors are happy to save it for you at no additional charge if they're informed before processing begins.
- Freeze the fat as soon as possible after processing.
- Package the frozen fat in heavy-duty freezer bags to help prevent leaks.
- Place the bagged fat inside an insulated thermal shipping box with frozen gel packs.
- Include your completed Hunter's Harvest Order Form inside the box.
- Ship early in the week (Monday through Wednesday) to help avoid weekend delays.
- Email your tracking number to legacylather@gmail.com after your shipment has been sent so we can monitor its arrival.
- Ship to:
Legacy Lather
N4498 Lien Rd
Melrose, WI 54642
For your convenience, we've included links to recommended insulated shipping boxes, and gel packs that work well for Hunter's Harvest shipments.
Receiving Your Soap
Every Hunter's Harvest order is made from the ground up. After your shipment arrives, the fat is carefully rendered into clean tallow before your soap is handcrafted in small batches. Once made, each batch is allowed to fully cure to produce a hard, long-lasting bar.
Because of this process, please allow approximately 8–10 weeks from the time your shipment is received for your finished soap to be completed and returned.
We'll send you an email when your shipment arrives safely at Legacy Lather and another when your order has shipped, so you'll always know the status of your order.
Christmas Delivery
To help ensure delivery before Christmas, your shipment should arrive at Legacy Lather no later than November 1st.
When your order is complete, your handcrafted soap will be carefully packaged and shipped to the address provided on your order form.
Your Hunter's Harvest Soap
Every Hunter's Harvest order is handcrafted using Legacy Lather's signature tallow soap recipe. Each batch produces 10 bars, cut to approximately 4.5 ounces each.
Each batch is made with:
- Tallow rendered from your harvest
- Coconut Oil
- Olive Oil
- Rice Bran Oil
- Castor Oil
- Shea Butter
Each batch is scented with one fragrance of your choice. Fragrance options include premium fragrance oils, essential oils, and an unscented option. Current fragrance selections are listed on the Hunter's Harvest Order Form.
Natural colorants, such as clays and activated charcoal, may be used depending on the fragrance selected. As with all handcrafted soap, slight variations in color and appearance are normal and reflect the unique nature of small-batch craftsmanship.
Every bar is individually bagged and labeled with a custom Hunter's Harvest tag using the information provided on your order form. Your personalized tags include the hunter's name, species, harvest date, and any additional information you choose to include.
In the unlikely event that your harvest does not produce enough rendered tallow to complete the recipe, premium beef tallow may be added to ensure a full batch of soap.
